McLennan Community College

In 2007, the citizens of McLennan County voted “yes” on a multi-million dollar bond package to renovate and expand McLennan Community College. Due to the addition of the University Center, which offers bachelor and master degree programs in partnership with Tarleton State, Texas Tech, and the University of Texas, MCC’s enrollment increased creating a shortage of classroom, meeting and faculty space; and parking. The bond package afforded the addition of the Michaelis Academic Center, Science Building, Health Sciences Building, Emergency Services Education Center, two multi-story parking garages, a jogging trail, and several new and/or renovated parking lots.

Walker Partners performed the topographic surveying for design, civil site design, assisted the architect in the bid process, performed construction administration, and construction staking and coordinated with numerous disciplines (structural, MEP, landscape, geotechnical, etc.). All work was accomplished according to MCC’s schedule and academic calendar while accommodating faculty, students, and visitors during the construction of each project.

McLennan Community College sits on a beautifully wooded property adjacent to the Bosque River and Cameron Park. Extreme care was taken during the design and construction of the new buildings/renovations and parking garages/lots to protect and preserve as much as the natural beauty of the land as possible and to aesthetically blend the buildings into the existing campus architecture and surrounding terrain. These projects had a focus on “green” building techniques.
